How getting LOST brings unexpected fun and adventure…

Couldn’t sleep. Occupational hazard

M3GAN

A funny thing happened on the way to the Cinema. Before I continue with this story, I should advise you that I have not been to the cinema in 3 years, nor caught a bus to the said destination in 3 years.

So, off on my little adventure. It all begins with me thinking the bus trip takes 40 minutes as it used to 3 years ago, so when we pull up at a Bus Station 28 minutes later that I do not recognise, I continue to look out the window…

Until…off to the left of me is BUNNINGS. Fuck… I missed my stop and the movie begins in 15 minutes and I’m heading off to the Jetty 🤦‍♀️

I go to leave the bus when I ask the driver when is she returning to where I ought to be, she says in 4 minutes. She explains that they changed the bus route a long time ago.

Yay, go me and translink for not updating their info…

…then she proceeded to share the shocking morning she had, had including crashing the side of the bus 😳

Not sure that restored my faith in the driving skills of the bus drivers in Brisbane, but here we were, she was nice and pleased she got that messy morning off her chest, and then we were back on the road.

Boom!

Got off where I should have the first time around and now I was racing against the clock. The movie started at 11.10am and it was already 11.09 and I had a fair walk ahead of me, especially since the changed bus stop location… I mean really? Why did they have to complicate things?

No matter, I race to the cinema, arrived 11:15 (don’t you just love this blow by blow account of the day in the life of…) 😂

Before I purchase the ticket I did clarify what time the main feature began, because I am one of those sodding pedantic people who refuses to watch a movie if I have missed the beginning. Everyone says, ‘you don’t miss much and you will pick it up’. I say, ‘bollocks to that. The opening frame is EVERYTHING!’

And I have no clue to why I’m using British slang instead of Aussie swearing, so let’s say it how it is, it was like FUCK ME, the whole morning had got off to a cunty start, let’s be real 😝

Side note: I hadn’t slept in two days…

So, I go bounding into the theatre after much laughter with the ticket ripper upperer about potentially being scared (not likely) but I think I scared him with my maniacal laughter and my BAHAHAHA.

It was fun. True story.

And…

I find a seat, get comfy like, and after rummaging through my bag, I realise I have left my glasses behind! Fuck me! How more fucked up can this morning get? (I’m short sighted and light sensitive, so they reduce glare and give me a richer, crisper image without the eye strain)

Oh well, time to climb a few more stairs and get further back into the cinema, and being so tired, my eyes are going to take a hammering, but I get comfy and buckle up, well not literally, I just get comfy.

Oh…and I did have some trepidation about visiting the cinema after 3 years, because this is the chick who grew up with cinema and fucking loved it.

The chick who up until 2019, with the exception of overseas travel, saw a movie at the cinema at least once or twice a week. None of this DVD shit when I could be at the cinema. But we all know what happened at the end of 2019, and I never returned until now.

And…

it was fucking fantastic, I still love the cinema. I felt like I’d come home, so very happy to report that the cinema experience has not lost its shine after 3 long years.

After a few groovy trailers the movie began. Have I told you the name of the movie yet?

Ha, well if you’ve lasted this long, KUDOS to you, you might actually deserve a review on the film as well 😂

Except…

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW…

It is M3GAN, the same producer as ‘The Black Phone’ and if you haven’t seen this great film based on a short story by Joe Hill, Stephen King’s son, then I suggest you do…

But I digress, this is not Joe Hill or Stephen King, this is a story by James Wan.

M3GAN has several layers to the story from AI, creepy dolls, misguided parental care, and grief and loss, although the latter was not given the treatment Stephen King would have given it.

It is being marketed as a horror/black comedy. I disagree with the marketing. Black comedy is one of my favourite genres and I laughed twice and that was just a nothing kinda laugh…

Was it horror?

kinda, sorta…depending on what you term as horror. For me, the horror was in the possible and very real effects of AI gone bad, in fact very, very bad, so I guess in that sense it was black comedy

There’s the horror in the reality of a child dealing with grief, and loss, and of course the sci-fi element (Transformerish) not entirely sure I can put it in a box. It was by no means a bad film or a brilliant film. Definitely worth the see on the big screen if you like the cinema experience and Dolby surround sound.

By the time the movie finished and I stayed till all the credits rolled and finished, because yes, I’m one of those people… I had missed my bus and the next one was an hour away.

…I filled in that time by doing other stuff that I won’t bore you with here, but all in all, in the madness of the day that was, in the life of Samira, it was FUN.

Watch the trailer below

Here’s my take-away from the day in the life…

Do yourself a favour

go have an adventure, if you get lost because you miss your stop, or take the wrong train, or drive down the wrong roads, enjoy it. Getting lost is fun.

It truly is…

it adds colour to the day, makes you laugh, and proud, that despite all the obstacles, you still achieved what you set out to do, unless of course, you have no sense of adventure. and you’re a miserable cunt 😂

Love ya’s xo
